Demos Incentives Re-opens
August 1st, 2025
Identity.demos.sh is back!
We're excited to announce that identity.demos.sh is officially back online with enhanced security measures and a renewed focus on rewarding genuine community members who are building the future of the internet together.
A Warm Welcome to Our Growing Community
First, we want to extend our heartfelt appreciation to all the new members who joined Demos over the past few weeks. The enthusiasm and genuine interest we've witnessed has been truly inspiring. In just days, we saw over 6000 users sign up and 2.4 million Demos tokens allocated – a testament to the growing excitement around our vision for seamless interoperability across Web2, Web3, and blockchain networks.
Importantly, despite this massive influx of users, there was zero impact on Demos network performance, demonstrating the robust scalability of our infrastructure.
However, this rapid growth also brought unexpected challenges that required our immediate attention.
Confronting the Challenge: Bot Detection and Prevention
Unfortunately, alongside our genuine community members, we discovered over 14000 nefarious actors attempting to exploit our incentive program rather than contribute meaningfully to the Demos ecosystem. Over the past two weeks, our team has been laser-focused on implementing comprehensive strategies for both automated and manual bot farm identification.
Our Three-Pronged Approach
We identified and tackled three distinct categories of malicious activity:
Direct SDK Exploiters: Bots that attempted to game the system by directly interfacing with our SDK
Obvious Bot Behavior: Accounts displaying clear automated patterns and suspicious activity
Sophisticated Actors: Cases requiring detailed investigation and manual review to uncover more subtle manipulation attempts
Lessons Learned, Systems Strengthened
This challenge presented an invaluable learning opportunity that has made our platform significantly more robust. We're pleased to report that we've implemented comprehensive safeguards:
Proactive Protection:
Automated entry-point screening now prevents bots from accessing the system initially
Real-time monitoring continuously identifies suspicious patterns as they emerge
Ongoing Vigilance:
Automated retrospective reviews regularly scan for previously undetected bot activity
Continuous enhancement of detection capabilities ensures we stay ahead of evolving tactics
Liveness checks will be implemented in the near future with the advent of encrypted identities, enabling human verification across both Web3 accounts and Web2 accounts
While this represents our first major bot detection initiative, we're committed to continuously improving our capabilities to maintain a fair and authentic community environment.
Updated Incentive Structure
Due to the overwhelming success of our referral program, we're implementing balanced adjustments to our point structure moving forward:
Twitter Verification: Reduced from 5 to 2 points
Web3 Wallet Verification: Reduced from 2 to 0.5 points (per wallet)
Following on Twitter: 1 point (New!)
Successful Referral: Reduced from 3 to 2 points
Important Notes:
All existing points earned by legitimate users are fully retained. Only accounts identified as bots have been affected by our security measures.
For the new Twitter following reward: You must be following @Demosxyz on Twitter prior to linking your Twitter account to receive the point. All users currently following us will automatically receive this point upon their next login.
Hint: Telegram is coming soon! So you may want to join the Demos TG now
Expanded Incentive Pool
We're thrilled to announce an additional 2.5 million DEM tokens have been allocated to our incentive program, demonstrating our continued commitment to rewarding genuine community participation and engagement.
Our Commitment to Fairness
We want to be absolutely clear: we will continue to ensure that bots are not rewarded. Our goal is to create a fair ecosystem where real users who contribute to building the Omniweb are properly recognized and compensated.
We understand that some legitimate users may be concerned about these security measures. While we have compelling evidence for each account suspension, our resident bot detective RandomBlock is available to discuss individual cases and review evidence with anyone who believes they've been incorrectly flagged. However, please understand that we don't make these decisions lightly – each suspension is backed by substantial evidence of suspicious activity - and we are very happy to have the conversation transparently in the community Telegram with anyone who has been flagged.
Looking Forward: Next Week's Exciting Developments
With our enhanced security infrastructure now in place, we're ready to move forwards. Stay tuned for next week's announcement – we think you're going to love what we have in store for the Demos community.
Onwards to the Omniweb!
Today marks a significant milestone in our journey. We're moving forward with a more robust, secure, and fair incentive system that protects genuine community members while maintaining the integrity of our ecosystem.
Thank you for your patience during this security enhancement period, and thank you for being part of the Demos community. Together, we're not just building technology – we're creating the foundation for a truly interconnected digital future.
Omniwebers, onwards to the Omniweb!
